Payal Assembly Election Results 2027

Speaking to Aaj Tak, India Today’s sister channel, the two-time Punjab Chief Minister said some BJP office-bearers handling the state’s affairs had not even been in state politics for a year. Despite this, he said, the party does not consider his opinion even though he has observed Punjab and its affairs for nearly 60 years.

The incident comes as the political contest in Punjab heats up ahead of the 2027 Assembly election, with the ruling AAP and Congress trading barbs over issues ranging from development to the state’s drug problem.

Major Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, Parkash Singh Badal’s cousin, joined the BJP in Chandigarh with his son Amarvir Singh Bawa. The move comes as the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal signal possible talks on a renewed alliance before the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls.

The results of the Panjab University students' council polls, coming ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, are being viewed as an indicator of the political mood among young voters.

Speculation over a possible Akali Dal-BJP reconciliation has intensified after Sukhbir Singh Badal’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several SAD leaders have hinted at an alliance ahead of the 2027 Punjab polls, but the BJP wants the bigger piece of the pie.
