2 killed after roof slab of under-construction house collapses in UP

Two people were killed and another was seriously injured after the roof slab of an under-construction house collapsed while it was being laid in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place late on Sunday night and trapped three people under the debris. One person died at the spot, while two others were taken to hospital, where one later died. The third remains under treatment in a serious condition, officials said.

Police said the collapse happened in Nasirpur village at a house being built by Dalveer alias Pannalal. The three people trapped in the debris were identified as Avnish, 28, a resident of Madanpur village in neighbouring Shahjahanpur district, Dalveer, the house owner, and Chandrabhan, 42.

After hearing the loud sound of the collapse, local residents rushed to the spot and, along with police personnel, rescued the three after considerable effort. Avnish died on the spot, while Dalveer and Chandrabhan were taken to the district hospital, officials said.

Chandrabhan later succumbed to his injuries at the Government Medical College, while Dalveer is still under treatment and is in a serious condition, police said.

Ujhani Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Rahul Pandey said, "A roof of an under-construction house collapsed while the roof slab was being laid in Nasirnagar village under Ujhani police station, trapping three workers. They were immediately rescued by police personnel and taken to the district hospital, where two of them died during treatment. One is still undergoing treatment and necessary legal proceedings are underway."

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar Singh visited the village after being informed about the incident and met the bereaved families, assuring them of all possible assistance.

Police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation has been initiated.
