Bihar labourer killed in Dehradun after discovering wife's affair, 2 arrested

A labourer from Bihar was allegedly killed in Dehradun by his wife and her purported lover, who later dumped his body in a forest ravine, police said on Sunday. The two accused have been arrested in connection with the case.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Doval identified the accused as Meena Devi, 30, and Lallan Sharma, 23, both from Bihar's Saharsa district.

The victim, Madan Mukhiya, was stabbed in the neck before his body was thrown into a ravine in the Manduwala forests, he said.

Mukhiya's body was recovered from the ravine on Saturday. Police said injuries on his neck raised suspicion of murder, after which the body was sent for post-mortem and a murder case was registered on a complaint by his landlord, Surendra Singh.

Doval said police traced Sharma after examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby routes, and also using inputs from local labourers and informants.

Sharma was then arrested and, during interrogation, confessed to killing Mukhiya with Meena, following which she was also arrested.

Police also recovered the knife used in the crime from bushes near the spot on Sharma's information, the officer said.

According to police, Sharma, who worked as a labourer with Mukhiya, had been in a relationship with Meena for the past two to three years.

Police said Sharma told them Mukhiya had learnt about the relationship a few days earlier, after which the two allegedly conspired to kill him. As part of the plan, Meena allegedly took Mukhiya to a forest next to a college on the pretext of having a drink.

After he became heavily intoxicated, Meena and Sharma allegedly attacked him with a knife and threw his body into a ravine, police said.

Police said the investigation found that Mukhiya was allegedly killed after he learnt about the relationship between Meena and Sharma, and that his body was later dumped in a ravine in the Manduwala forests.
