The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting searches in poll-bound Punjab, including at the premises linked to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's alleged relatives in an illegal sand mining case, sources said.

The ED raided over 10 locations in the state, including the premises of Bhupinder Singh Honey, who is reportedly a relative of CM Channi, in Mohali.

According to sources, Bhupinder had allegedly floated a firm named Punjab Realtors to get sand mining contracts.

The ED raid was also conducted at Homeland society where CM Channi's sister-in-law's son lives.

The ED suspects that black money was invested in getting contract of the sand mine. The company floated, sources say, is of very small scale and unlikely to get a contract worth crores.

In the past, the Opposition parties in Punjab have accused the state government of aiding people involved in illegal sand mining.

In December 2021, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged that illegal sand mining was thriving in Chamkaur Sahib, CM Channi's own constituency.
