ALLEGED FRAUD BEFORE INCIDENT
According to a complaint lodged by Utsav Patel, a resident of Nava Naroda in Ahmedabad, the dispute dates back to April 2025.
Patel alleged that Mahendra Singh Rathod, a friend of his father, Rohit Kumar, initially took Rs 15 lakh in cash after promising to secure a dealership with the state-owned Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL).
Rathod allegedly claimed to have strong political connections in Rajasthan and assured the family that he could arrange for one of their associates, Shivujilal Chaudhary, to be appointed chairman of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC).
For this purpose, Rathod and his son, Abhimanyu Singh Rathod, allegedly demanded an advance payment of Rs 50 lakh, which the complainant said was paid in January 2026.
The complainant further alleged that the family eventually transferred around Rs 1.1 crore through bank transfers and other modes of payment. However, neither the promised dealership nor the political appointment materialised.
Repeated demands for the return of the money allegedly led to growing tensions between the two sides. Police said an argument had also broken out on May 17 over the pending payments.
HOW THE ATTACK UNFOLDED
According to the FIR, an attempt was later made to resolve the dispute through a meeting.
Patel's friend, Bharat Singh Chandawat, invited Rathod to his gym in Gandhinagar. Police alleged that Rathod and his son arrived at the location on a two-wheeler along with around 10 associates, all armed with knives, large sickles and wooden sticks.
According to the complaint, the group attacked the victims while shouting, "Why do you keep asking for your money? We'll give you your money today."
Rathod allegedly stabbed Chandawat in the back, while his son also attacked him with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.
When Patel tried to intervene, he too was allegedly attacked. The FIR states that Sunil Chauhan, Hemant alias Lalabhai Chauhan and Abhimanyu Singh Rathod stabbed him multiple times, causing injuries to his back, arms, legs and abdomen.
Both injured men were rushed to hospital for treatment.
