Prostitution racket at Gurugram PG busted; foreigners among 21 detained
A joint team raided a PG in Gurugram's Sector 38 and detained 21 people. The case widened after a rescued minor's account pointed to a larger trafficking network.
A joint raid by Gurugram Police and the Haryana State Commission for Women busted a prostitution racket at a PG accommodation in Gurugram, with 13 men and eight women, including foreign nationals, detained, officials said on Sunday.
Police said the action in Sector 38 followed the rescue of a girl on Saturday, whose information led investigators to the premises. Sahil, a resident of Jharsa village who is alleged to be behind the racket, and his wife have been arrested.
Officials said the raid came a day after several spa centres at Sapphire 90 Mall in the city were searched over alleged illegal activities.
The joint operation at the PG was carried out under the supervision of ACP Abhilaksh Joshi, nodal officer for the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, along with Usha Priyadarshini, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women.
According to the preliminary investigation, Sahil allegedly used WhatsApp and some websites to run the operation, and around 10 to 12 associates were involved. Police said the minor victim also alleged that she had been forcibly kept at the Jharsa premises.
Police said a fresh FIR under relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Foreigners Act would be registered at Sadar police station.
"We are examining electronic evidence recovered from the scene – such as mobile phones, CCTV footage, and documents – to identify other accomplices and key clients involved in the racket. No guilty person will be spared," ACP Joshi said.
The case widened after the rescued girl shared details with police, leading to the raid in Sector 38, the detention of 21 people, and the arrest of the two accused, while investigators continued to examine electronic evidence and trace others allegedly linked to the racket.
