Mastermind of Jaipur businessman kidnapping case arrested in Dubai, brought back
Rajasthan's Anti-Gangster Task Force has brought back Karan Aswani from Dubai in the Narendra Nath Datta kidnapping case. His return is expected to advance court proceedings and the wider organised crime investigation.
A key accused in the kidnapping of Jaipur businessman Narendra Nath Datta, who fled to Dubai after the crime, has been arrested and brought back to India by the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF).
Karan Aswani, alias Kamal Sindhi, was detained by the Abu Dhabi Interpol team after the Rajasthan Police traced his location in Dubai.
The case relates to the kidnapping of businessman Narendra Nath Datta in Jaipur in August 2025. The accused posed as police personnel, kidnapped the businessman and demanded a ransom from his family.
BUSINESSMAN KIDNAPPED, RANSOM DEMANDED
An FIR was registered in Jaipur on August 21, 2025, based on a complaint filed after the kidnapping of Narendra Nath Datta.
According to the complaint, Datta had left his Jaipur home on August 20, 2025, for Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur. He was travelling with an acquaintance and his driver, Yogesh.
The family became worried after Datta's mobile phone became unreachable. The following day, they received a call from his mobile phone informing them that he had been kidnapped and demanding ransom for his release.
The police immediately launched an investigation and rescued Datta and his driver, Yogesh.
The investigation subsequently revealed that the kidnappers had used police uniforms as part of their plan. They had held the victims captive at different locations, including Agra, and demanded ransom from their families.
ACCOMPLICES ARRESTED, KARAN ASWANI REMAINED ON THE RUN
As the investigation progressed, police arrested Harsh Gautam, Kanak Ganguly and Ajay Beniwal, alias Shaka.
The police also recovered the Innova Crysta belonging to the kidnapped victims from Harsh Gautam's possession. A Swift car used in the crime was also seized.
The investigation established the role of the accused in the kidnapping and ransom operation and brought details of the locations where the victims had allegedly been kept captive to light.
However, Karan Aswani remained absconding.
After his alleged role in the crime emerged, police searched his suspected hideouts and obtained an arrest warrant against him from the court. By the time police intensified efforts to locate him, they discovered that Aswani had already fled the country.
RED CORNER NOTICE ISSUED, SEARCH EXTENDED TO DUBAI
With information indicating that Aswani had escaped to Dubai, the AGTF expanded its investigation beyond India.
A Red Corner Notice was issued against him, while the AGTF continued to monitor his movements and coordinate with relevant agencies. The team also maintained regular contact with the Interpol unit in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and shared information about the accused.
Through technical and other means, the AGTF traced Aswani's location and passed the information to the Abu Dhabi Interpol team.
The accused was subsequently detained by the Abu Dhabi Interpol team.
AGTF TEAM LEFT JAIPUR ON AUGUST 31
After receiving information about Aswani's detention, the process of bringing him back to India began.
An AGTF team led by ASP Siddhant Sharma left Jaipur on August 31. The team included DSP Ravindra Pratap and Police Inspectors Sunil Jangid and Ram Singh Nathawat.
After completing the necessary legal and coordination formalities in Dubai, the team took custody of Aswani and brought him back to India. The accused arrived in Jaipur late Thursday night.
Further legal proceedings will now be carried out before the court, while the police will conduct a detailed investigation into his alleged role in the kidnapping and organised crime case.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Additional DGP Dinesh MN.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Yogesh Yadav and Additional SP Siddhant Sharma supervised the operation.
DSP Ravindra Pratap, Police Inspectors Sunil Jangid and Ram Singh Nathawat, along with their teams, played a key role in tracing Aswani, gathering information about his criminal network and coordinating with the relevant agencies.
KARAN ASWANI'S CRIMINAL RECORD SPANS 25 YEARS
Police records indicate that Aswani, alias Kamal Sindhi, has been involved in criminal cases for more than two decades.
His criminal record dates back to 2000, when a murder case was registered against him at Murlipura police station.
In 2003, a case involving charges including rioting, assault and trespassing was registered at Shiprapath police station. Another case involving assault, wrongful restraint and theft was registered at the same police station in 2005.
In 2009, a case involving rioting, assault and trespassing was registered at Mansarovar police station.
The police records show that his criminal activities continued in later years. In 2023, cases involving kidnapping and extortion were registered at Bindayaka and Khoh Nagorian police stations. Cases involving extortion, kidnapping and assault were also registered at Mansarovar police station.
In 2025, the sequence culminated in the case involving the kidnapping of businessman Narendra Nath Datta and organised crime, registered at Khoh Nagorian police station.
