Rajasthan Local Body Election Results 2026 Highlights: PM Modi calls verdict triumph of truth over lies

The urban local body polls in Rajasthan has seen the BJP, which is in power in the state, gain 5 percentage point more seats while the Congress's tally dropped by 5 percentage points. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked voters for the BJP’s victory in the Rajasthan urban local body elections, calling the verdict a triumph of truth over lies.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the mandate showed that people fully supported the governance and development policies of the BJP’s “double-engine” government.

“This is proof of the victory of truth over the echo of lies,” PM Modi said.

He added that the result would strengthen the government’s resolve to take Rajasthan to new heights of development and improve people’s lives.

PM Modi also congratulated the BJP’s winning candidates and party workers for their efforts during the elections.

Congress candidate Faiz Hassan, 21, won Ward 71 of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. He defeated Independent candidate Mohammad Salim, who received 5,256 votes, while the BJP’s Nisha Gaur finished third. In Alwar’s Thanagazi municipality, 21-year-old BJP candidate Neha Sharma defeated her Congress rival by 101 votes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the BJP on its victory in the Rajasthan local body elections, calling the result an endorsement of the state government’s governance and development agenda under PM Modi’s leadership. In a post on X, Shah congratulated Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, state BJP president Madan Rathore and party workers, and said the mandate would strengthen the government’s resolve to make Rajasthan a developed state.

Unconfirmed reports of EVM glitches in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota have emerged, with counting reportedly put on hold in the three cities. Officials have not yet confirmed the claims.

• The Congress failed to secure a clear majority in Laxmangarh, the home turf of state party president Govind Singh Dotasra, and will depend on Independents.
• The party also fell short of a majority in Malakhera and Bahadurpur, areas associated with Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully.
• The Congress secured clear majorities in Tonk and Dausa, both associated with party general secretary Sachin Pilot.
• In former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s home turf of Jodhpur, the Congress put up a strong fight against the BJP, but Independents are likely to hold the balance of power.

• The BJP suffered a major defeat in Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal’s home turf of Bikaner.

• The party also faced a significant setback in Jhalawar, the stronghold of BJP national vice-president Vasundhara Raje.

• The BJP failed to secure a clear majority in Jodhpur, Alwar and Ajmer, areas associated with Union ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Bhupender Yadav and Minister of State Bhagirath Choudhary, respectively.

• The BJP secured a clear majority in Kota, the home turf of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

• The Congress failed to open its account in Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s home district of Deeg.

• In the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, the BJP and Independent candidates won most seats, while the Congress was reduced to seven.

MUNICIPAL CORPORATION-WISE RESULTS

A BJP and a Congress candidate received just one vote each, while an RLP nominee drew a blank in the Rajasthan urban local body elections.

BJP’s Kailashchand, fielded from Ward 13 of Parbatsar municipality, received one vote as Congress candidate Hina Khanam won with 376 votes, followed by Independent Rashid Khan with 195.

Kailashchand said he was registered as a voter in neighbouring Ward 12 and someone in Ward 13 had voted for him.

Congress candidate Mazeed Mohammad also secured only one vote in Ward 15 of Riyanbari municipality in Nagaur, where BJP’s Sunil Kumar Chauhan won.

RLP candidate Om Prakash received no votes in Ward 3 of Sindhri municipality in Balotra.

The BJP secured a clear majority in the 80-member Udaipur Municipal Corporation by winning 53 wards, in the 70-member Bhilwara by winning 45 wards, and in the 100-member Kota by winning 53 wards. The Congress emerged victorious in Bikaner and was leading in Ajmer and Pali, whereas the BJP edged past it in Jaipur and Alwar.

The Congress on Monday registered a decisive victory in the Jhalawar Municipal Council, winning 18 of its 25 wards in a region considered a political stronghold of former Rajasthan chief minister and senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as the largest party in the Baran Municipal Council, winning 31 seats and forming the board. The BJP and Congress trailed behind in the civic body.

In Jhalawar also, AAP put up a strong performance, with more than 10 of its councillor candidates winning their seats.

Rajasthan Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra thanked voters across the state following the local body elections, attributing the mandate to the BJP government's performance over the past 31 months.

Kharra said voters had endorsed the government's efforts towards development, resolving public issues and ensuring transparent and impartial governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

He said the government had worked on issues concerning water and electricity, law and order, and the future of the state’s youth. Kharra also accused the previous government of compromising the future of lakhs of young people between 2018 and 2023, without elaborating on the allegation.
