Delhi CM Rekha Gupta's electoral details validated after SIR notice
Delhi's poll body issued Rekha Gupta a notice after an age discrepancy was flagged in her enumeration form. After verification, officials cleared her entry as the wider voter roll revision continues across the city.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's electoral details have been validated after the city poll body issued her a notice during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) over an age-related discrepancy in her enumeration form, officials said on Saturday.
The Delhi poll body said the notice was part of the wider revision process and was not issued only to the chief minister. It said electors whose entries were flagged for discrepancies were being asked to respond and submit documents, after which the concerned electoral registration officers would decide the matter.
Gupta, a voter and representative of the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency, was among those whose details were flagged during the claims and objections period on the basis of information submitted in their enumeration forms.
A notice was issued to her and a physical verification was carried out by the designated booth level officer, the Shalimar Bagh electoral registration officer said in a statement.
"Following verification of the facts and documents submitted by Gupta, her electoral entry has been validated and parked for inclusion in the final electoral roll of AC-14 (Shalimar Bagh), scheduled to be published on November 4," it said.
The Delhi CEO office said the process followed the Election Commission's instructions issued on May 14.
"As per the Election Commission's instructions issued on May 14, names of members of the judiciary, public representatives, holders of declared offices and personalities from fields including arts, culture, journalism, sports and public service, whose entries had earlier been flagged in the electoral database, were included in the draft rolls so that necessary documents could be collected during the claims and objections period," it said.
The poll body said notices were being issued to electors whose entries had been flagged for discrepancies and that the concerned ERO of the Assembly would dispose of the notices after examining their replies and required documents.
As of Saturday, notices had been sent to 31,63,930 of 33 lakh voters across Delhi, the statement said. Electors who receive notices have to submit their replies and documents to the concerned ERO, and disposal of the notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29.
In sum, the poll body said Gupta's details have been cleared after verification, while the wider SIR exercise continues across Delhi with notices being issued to voters whose entries have been flagged for discrepancies.
