Missing UP couple found dead at separate spots, man in wife's salwar adds mystery

A couple was found dead at two separate locations in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor on Tuesday, with the circumstances surrounding their deaths raising several questions.

The husband, identified as Chhotu, was found hanging from a tree in a forest, while his wife Sushma's body was found near the Ganga river.

The couple had been reported missing a day earlier. On September 14, their family informed the police after Chhotu and Sushma could not be traced, following which a missing persons report was registered at Kotwali City police station. Police launched a search operation with the help of local residents.

The search had to be called off at night due to heavy rain and darkness. The operation resumed the following morning, when police received information about a woman's body near the Ganga. Police reached the riverbank and identified the woman as Sushma. During the subsequent search, Chhotu was found hanging from a tree in a nearby forest.

The fact that the couple's bodies were found at different locations became a key focus of the investigation. Police began trying to establish where the two were last seen, who they were with and how they reached the forest and the riverbank.

POSTMORTEM REVEALS DIFFERENT CAUSES OF DEATH

A postmortem examination has now revealed that the couple died of different causes.

According to the postmortem report, Chhotu's cause of death was recorded as "Antemortem Hanging", indicating that he died due to hanging while alive. His body had been found hanging from a tree in the forest.

Sushma's postmortem report, meanwhile, stated the cause of death as "Asphyxia due to strangulation." This means she died after her breathing was obstructed due to strangulation, resulting in a lack of oxygen.

The findings have added a crucial medical element to the investigation. Police are now trying to establish the circumstances in which Sushma was strangled and how her death is connected to Chhotu's subsequent death by hanging.

HUSBAND FOUND WEARING WIFE'S SALWAR

Another unusual detail that emerged during the initial investigation was that Chhotu was reportedly found wearing his wife's salwar. Both bodies were also reportedly found in a half-naked state.

Police had examined these circumstances as part of the investigation but had not drawn any conclusion based solely on the condition in which the bodies were found.

With the postmortem findings now available, investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding both deaths and trying to reconstruct the sequence of events.

SENIOR POLICE OFFICIALS AT THE SCENE

Senior police officer DIG Muniraj visited the scene on Tuesday evening and took stock of the investigation. He spoke to local police officials and sought details about the evidence collected and the action taken so far.

Later, during a press conference, Muniraj shared the postmortem findings and details of the investigation. He said the special postmortem team included male and female doctors and that the procedure had been videographed.

The disclosure of the postmortem findings has given investigators important medical evidence as they work to establish the sequence of events.

POLICE INVESTIGATE LINK BETWEEN TWO DEATHS

The key question before investigators is now how Sushma died from strangulation and what happened before and after her death.

Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding Chhotu's death by hanging and whether the two deaths were connected. Investigators are trying to determine when and where the couple were last seen, who was with them at the time and how their bodies ended up at two separate locations.
