The Tamil Nadu government faces severe backlash from its allies, the Congress and the CPM, following its decision to exempt law and order matters from the purview of the Right to Information Act by classifying the department as an intelligence and security organisation. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram opposed the move, stating that restricting RTI sets a bad precedent and that the Act should be expanded.
