Kerala Politics, Communist History & Minority Outreach: Debate On BJP's Southern Challenge

At the India Today South Conclave, discussions examined the political dynamics shaping Southern India, with a specific focus on Kerala and the Bharatiya Janata Party's electoral trajectory. Dr S. Radhakrishnan, State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party Kerala, argued that an axiomatic narrative of liberal left secularism has been created around Kerala politics, contending that the Communist Party historically organized as a Hindu political outfit following key historical events, including the 1921 Malabar rebellion and the Sabarimala arson case. The discussion also addressed minority voting patterns, observing that minority communities, particularly Muslims and Christians, have largely aligned with the United Democratic Front led by the Congress. Further deliberations addressed allegations regarding Christian outreach, community trust deficits, controversies surrounding missionary activities, and the role of state-aided Christian educational institutions across Kerala.
