Floods Hit UP Districts After Nepal Inflow; Aerial Surveys And Relief Underway

India has backed a United Nations resolution promoting equal area world maps to ensure a fairer representation of world regions, an initiative sought by African nations. However, New Delhi firmly reiterated that its sovereign territory, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, must be shown strictly as per India's official map. Emphasising that the resolution does not endorse any specific map projection or national boundaries, India stated that any inaccurate or misleading depiction of its territory remains unacceptable and non-negotiable.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a phased review meeting with Ministers of State at his residence to take stock of government functioning and the progress of key initiatives. Ministers overseeing portfolios including Education, Agriculture, and Social Justice and Empowerment are set to attend the meeting with performance reports. The assessment comes amid ongoing discussions regarding a potential cabinet reshuffle, with more review sessions expected across other ministries in the coming days.

A major landslide in North Sikkim's Mangan district has partially blocked two rivers, the Teesta and the Chiyabong, following a hillside collapse near their confluence along the Naga and Tosa Road. Water accumulation has been reported in both rivers, leading authorities to place lower belt and downstream areas on alert as a precaution. The district administration and police are continuously monitoring river water levels to check for changes in flow or threats of reaching danger levels. While property damage is currently being assessed, officials confirmed that the Teesta River flow remains normal and no casualties or immediate danger to downstream areas have been reported.

A TVK functionary named Kanan was chased and hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in Chennai between Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur. Tamil Nadu Police have recovered CCTV footage from the crime scene and formed three special teams to apprehend the perpetrators. Five individuals have been detained in connection with the murder. According to the police, Kanan was a history-sheeter with prior cases of murder and attempt to murder, who had recently entered the real estate business. Authorities are probing personal enmity and business rivalry angles. Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin questioned the state government and the prevailing law and order situation over the incident.
