In an exclusive interview, Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies and author of 'Humans First, Machines Second', dismissed existential doomsday warnings surrounding artificial intelligence as fear-mongering designed to protect inflated tech valuations. Questioning claims that AI poses an imminent threat to humankind, Nayar argued that tech giants are generating fear because their multi-trillion-dollar bets lack immediate, revenue-generating use cases. While endorsing regulatory oversight and safety benchmarks similar to those in the financial sector, he warned against over-regulation driven by hype. Nayar emphasized that emerging lower-cost models and young innovators will disrupt big tech duopolies. He outlined key transitional hurdles, including short-term job disruptions, cyber vulnerabilities, and unprepared education systems, while asserting that society will ultimately adapt and control the technology.

In an interview with Karan Thapar, Pune resident and anti-noise campaigner Vidyanand Bapat defended his opposition to loud celebrations, including DJs, loudspeakers, and Dhol Tasha during Ganesh Utsav and other public festivals. Addressing the pushback and a recent physical assault against him, Bapat stated, "We are opposing all noise pollution, not all festivals." He emphasized that modern work patterns, particularly in the IT and ITES sectors operating around the clock from home, leave residents vulnerable to excessive sound on public streets. Bapat proposed an objective criterion to distinguish peaceful celebrations from noisy ones based on the use of artificial sound amplifying equipment, suggesting loud events move to soundproof auditoriums or open grounds.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed an FIR in the Disha Salian death case following directions from the Bombay High Court and a complaint by her father, Satish Salian. In his statement, Salian alleged his daughter was gang-raped and murdered, disputing earlier police findings of suicide. The FIR names high-profile individuals, including Shiv Sena UBT MLA Aaditya Thackeray, party chief Uddhav Thackeray, actors Rhea Chakraborty, Dino Morea, and Suraj Pancholi, alongside former police officials and a former home minister. The CBI is investigating allegations of delayed autopsy, evidence destruction, and narrative fabrication.
