Gurugram Biker Incident Debate: Advaita Kala, Maral Yazarloo, Maj Gen Sanjay on Road Safety

The father of the female bike rider involved in a road incident, Roshan, spoke about the occurrence after seeing video footage of the event. He stated that he learned about the incident through the media, as his daughter had not informed him directly. Expressing concern over the risks female riders face from such targeted hitting on the road, he clarified that his daughter, Shivani Chauhan, who also contested elections from the Kalkaji ward, is an experienced driver of both two-wheelers and cars. He urged the Gurugram Police to take strict action regarding the case.

Two violent incidents in Gurugram's upscale Golf Course Road area have raised serious concerns over citizen safety and civic conditions. In the first incident, a woman rider was hit and dragged by a car whose occupants were allegedly drunk and harassing her biking group; the entire incident was recorded on her GoPro camera. While Gurugram police registered an FIR, the car's registered owner, an Indian Army soldier posted in Assam, claimed he had lent the vehicle to a friend who denied driving it. In another incident nearby at Sector 65, Kargil War veteran Group Captain Amit Kumar (Retd) was assaulted with an iron rod by a parking attendant following an argument over parking space. The retired officer sustained broken arms and ribs and underwent surgery at Medanta. The report highlights deteriorating law and order, lack of road safety, and civic issues in one of India's most expensive residential belts.

Following a viral video of a woman rider getting hit in Gurgaon, women bikers shared their daily experiences on Indian roads during a panel discussion. Rider Maral highlighted recurring harassment, recalling an incident where an SUV without a number plate chased her during a trip back from Ladakh. She emphasised the importance of wearing full riding gear to mitigate injury risks. Another rider, Urvashi, echoed safety concerns, noting that riding in complete gear also prevents people from immediately identifying female riders on the road, where unwanted gestures and stalking remain frequent challenges.

A woman biker, identified as Sia, has released a statement on her social media profile following a dangerous confrontation on the road. Sia stated that she is receiving numerous messages regarding the incident and confirmed that she will be filing a formal First Information Report (FIR) alongside her lawyer by this evening to initiate legal action. Urging the public for patience and calm, she stated that she does not wish to reveal her identity or face for her own safety and security. She thanked the public for their support and promised to provide updates on the matter as legal steps are taken against the perpetrator.
