Gurugram Crime Spree: Woman Biker Hit & Run, Kargil War Veteran Attacked Over Parking Row

Following a viral video of a woman rider getting hit in Gurgaon, women bikers shared their daily experiences on Indian roads during a panel discussion. Rider Maral highlighted recurring harassment, recalling an incident where an SUV without a number plate chased her during a trip back from Ladakh. She emphasised the importance of wearing full riding gear to mitigate injury risks. Another rider, Urvashi, echoed safety concerns, noting that riding in complete gear also prevents people from immediately identifying female riders on the road, where unwanted gestures and stalking remain frequent challenges.

A woman biker, identified as Sia, has released a statement on her social media profile following a dangerous confrontation on the road. Sia stated that she is receiving numerous messages regarding the incident and confirmed that she will be filing a formal First Information Report (FIR) alongside her lawyer by this evening to initiate legal action. Urging the public for patience and calm, she stated that she does not wish to reveal her identity or face for her own safety and security. She thanked the public for their support and promised to provide updates on the matter as legal steps are taken against the perpetrator.

A viral video from Gurugram's Golf Course Road shows a car driver aggressively tailing a woman biker, identified as Sia, before deliberately hitting her two-wheeler at high speed and fleeing the spot. The biker, who was travelling with a group of friends, alleged the occupants of the car were intoxicated, demanded she pull over, and pursued her despite fellow riders attempting to shield her. The confrontation was recorded from multiple angles, including bike dashcams and GoPros, which also captured the driver's face during a confrontation at a traffic light. Following widespread outrage on social media, Gurugram Police registered an FIR at Sector 56 Police Station under strict provisions against rash and negligent driving. The registered owner of the vehicle, an Army personnel on duty, clarified that a relative had borrowed his car for two days and that the suspect belongs to Tikri village in Palwal.

The Bengal government has ordered the closure of 252 madarsas and served show-cause notices to 100 institutions following a statewide verification drive across 22 districts, including Kolkata. A survey revealed that while 2,132 madarsas possess valid approval, 2,396 are operating without the required authorisation. Malda recorded the highest closures at 45, followed by Uttar Dinajpur with 37. State Minority Affairs Minister Shudhiram Tudu clarified that recognised institutions will remain operational and noticed institutions will receive an opportunity to respond. While Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh defended the decision citing unregulated functioning and security concerns, TMC MLA Pirzada Qasim Siddiqui accused the authorities of deliberately targeting the Muslim community.
