The Karnataka government has decided to approach the Supreme Court against the central government's decision to withhold ₹2,186.20 crore allocated for Gram Panchayats under the 15th Finance Commission recommendations. The state government highlighted that the withholding of funds comes amid a rainfall shortage and acute drinking water crisis in rural areas. According to official data, 710 villages face drinking water shortages, with 149 villages dependent on water tankers and 561 private borewells being hired to meet demand.
