Left Groups Protest CEC, SIR Exercise; Stopped Near Jantar Mantar

Left organisations, including KYS and RWPI, staged a protest at Delhi's Raisina Road near the Press Club, attempting to march towards Jantar Mantar. The demonstration targeted Chief Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar and opposed the SIR exercise along with the initial de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a protest venue. Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces in anti-riot gear set up two layers of barricades to halt the marching cadres holding placards. Demonstrators sat on the barricades and raised slogans against the CEC. Various left groups, including AISA, AISF, SFI, alongside JNUSU, IVH, and the Congress party, have continued ongoing agitations across the national capital for over a week despite the administration re-notifying Jantar Mantar as a protest site.

Delhi Dharna Protest Row: BJP Slams Opposition, Calls Capital Rallies Bid To Create Anarchy

The Bharatiya Janata Party has mounted a sharp offensive against the opposition over protests in Delhi, alleging that the demonstrations are calculated attempts to create anarchy by elements who have no regard for the Constitution or constitutional bodies. The party asserted that despite global headwinds, India continues to progress on the path of development, while certain foreign forces and opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi, are acting as toolkits against the nation's interests. The BJP further countered opposition narratives surrounding the electoral roll publication, questioning why rival parties failed to submit a single official complaint through their booth level agents despite publicly alleging irregularities, and announced a nationwide campaign consisting of rallies and press conferences.

Actor Imran Khan Moves Bombay HC Over FRRO Notice To Leave India by October 28

Actor Imran Khan has approached the Bombay High Court challenging a Foreigners Regional Registration Office notice ordering him to leave India by October 28. The notice followed his brief detention during a demonstration at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan. Khan's petition seeks an urgent stay and quashing of the order, calling for authorities to produce records supporting the decision. The plea highlights that Khan has lived in the country since age two, where his livelihood and family are based. Arguing that the protest area was not restricted and protesting is not banned for Overseas Citizen of India cardholders, the plea calls the expulsion disproportionate. Meanwhile, the registration authority has also issued a fresh show-cause notice.
