India First: Sanju Verma, Swati Chaturvedi, Rajat Sethi Debate MLC Polls

On India First, political panelists debate the outcomes of recent MLC elections across multiple states and the opposition's persistent demand to return to paper ballots. Following electoral setbacks where the Congress failed to secure seats across four states, including Karnataka, party spokesperson Bhavya Narasimhamurthy defended allegations regarding electronic voting machines and questioned the ruling party's record in Varanasi. In response, BJP National Spokesperson Sanju Verma pointed to the Congress's zero-seat tally across 28 Legislative Council seats and highlighted the BJP's electoral performance in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other regions, arguing that the opposition makes excuses instead of introspecting. Columnist Swati Chaturvedi and political analyst Rajat Sethi analyzed the broader electoral implications, addressing internal political dynamics facing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ahead of assembly elections, opposition demonstrations targeting the Election Commission, and shifting voter alignments.

BJP Targets Rahul Gandhi Over Ballot Loss; INDIA Bloc Plans Public Impeachment Of CEC

A major political clash has erupted between the BJP and the opposition over election outcomes and voting integrity. The BJP targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming the party suffers defeats even in ballot paper elections, citing recent MLC results where the Congress was reduced to zero. Ruling party leaders asserted the failure lies with party leadership rather than voting machines or voter rolls. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc has scheduled a public impeachment initiative against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge inviting opposition MPs for a gathering on October 30. Opposition leaders also questioned the ruling party over poll rigging allegations, while the BJP warned Congress faces political wipeout under its current leadership.

To The Point: Sandeep Shastri, Shekhar Iyer, Rashid Kidwai on MLC Polls

On India Today's 'To The Point', anchor Preeti Choudhry hosts an extensive panel discussion reviewing the results of the 28 Legislative Council (MLC) seats across four states. Political analysts Sandeep Shastri, Shekhar Iyer, Rashid Kidwai, Dr Kartikeya Batra, and Sanjay Kumar evaluate the electoral outcomes and strategic ramifications for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Jan Suraaj Party. Sandeep Shastri observed, 'This is very much a setback for the Congress in Karnataka,' while emphasising that graduate and teacher constituencies depend significantly on candidate charisma and voter enrolment rather than broad national patterns. Panellists debate whether the Congress's campaign against alleged voter suppression is resonating in the Hindi heartland, the emergence of a bipolar contest in Uttar Pradesh, and the shifting dynamics in Bihar following the Jan Suraaj Party's performance in Darbhanga. The discussion critically assesses whether indirect council elections genuinely reflect the wider mood on the ground ahead of key upcoming assembly battles.

2026 MLC Election Results: Congress Draws Blank Across 4 States, BJP Loses Varanasi

The 2026 Legislative Council election results across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have delivered a mixed outcome for major political parties. The Congress suffered the biggest defeat by drawing a complete blank across all 28 contested seats, losing all four seats in Karnataka to the BJP-JDS alliance and conceding the Darbhanga seat in Bihar to the Jan Suraaj Party. Meanwhile, warning signs emerged for the Bharatiya Janata Party despite winning six of 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, as it failed to win two seats in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi constituency and lost the Patna seat in Bihar to the Rashtriya Janata Dal after 30 years, signalling strong gains for the Samajwadi Party.
