Satya Niketan Toll at 7: CM Orders MLA Surveys on 17.5-Metre Height Cap Violations

Following the Satya Niketan building collapse where the death toll reached seven, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered all MLAs to conduct surveys in their constituencies to identify illegal constructions. Under the directive, MLAs must check and report any buildings violating the 17.5-metre height cap. The move comes as belated government action after years of unchecked construction violations across Delhi NCR. Concerns have been raised over whether surveying building heights using measuring rods is the responsibility of elected legislators, arguing instead that enforcement and permit oversight require scientific involvement by civic bodies such as the MCD and police rather than post-tragedy audits by MLAs.
