PM Modi Addresses SRCC Centenary, Targets Opposition as Congress Hits Back Over Student Protests

Protests in Bihar over exam paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment examinations, including the teacher recruitment test, led to clashes where police deployed lathicharge, water cannons, and alleged gunfire. Several demonstrating students sustained injuries during a march towards the official residence of the Chief Minister following a bandh call by student organisations and opposition parties. Visuals and social media videos showed injured demonstrators recounting allegations of bullets fired from assault weapons during police action. One demonstrator sustained a shattered leg bone requiring a surgical rod, ending aspirations to join the armed forces, while others suffered shoulder wounds. Political representatives engaged with the affected students to review their condition and highlight demands concerning education, employment, and administrative accountability. The incident has intensified political scrutiny and accusations regarding alleged police brutality during demonstrations over recruitment examinations in Bihar.

Over ten students at Jawaharlal Nehru University have accused a faculty member of sexual harassment, inappropriate sexual advances, and making lewd remarks during classes. The students have also alleged inappropriate behaviour and demands for sexual favours at the professor's residence inside the university campus. The Internal Complaints Committee has launched an investigation into the matter after multiple students came forward with allegations filed around a month ago. The university administration and Vice-Chancellor's office have not commented on the issue as the probe remains underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video capturing his metro journey to and from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Delhi, where he attended the college's centenary celebrations. During the ride, Prime Minister Modi interacted with commuters, including students, Gen Z, and young children. He engaged in lighthearted conversations, enquired about reading habits beyond syllabus textbooks, and advised students to read biographies and autobiographies of scientists, players, and artists. He also spoke with passengers regarding national progress and development changes in Kashi (Varanasi). Commuters greeted the Prime Minister, with one student mentioning Teachers' Day and describing him as an inspiration. Network correspondent Piyush Mishra noted that the Prime Minister previously used the metro during Delhi University visits, highlighting his focus on engaging with youth and taking direct feedback on development initiatives across the country.

The government has launched a recruitment drive for 331 constables in the Ladakh Police, accompanied by free physical and written orientation training for local youth. The training will be conducted across districts including Leh, Kargil, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang, with Leh hosting a 14-day camp at the Astro Turf Stadium in Spituk from 7 to 20 September. Professional drill instructors from the CRPF and other security forces will train aspiring candidates in physical standards like running, push-ups, and long jump. To ensure complete transparency, the selection process will use RFID-enabled sensor beeps and biometric fingerprint scanning to prevent impersonation and fraud.
