Catastrophic flash floods in Nepal have claimed over 1,200 lives, leaving more than 4,200 people missing, while nearly 12,000 have been rescued. Specialized rescue teams continue operations inside hydropower tunnels. In the Rasuwa region, the town of Betrawati at the foothills was completely swept away as the Trishuli river expanded from 30 metres to 600 metres, destroying bridges, buildings, markets, and temples. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's Camac Street office in Kolkata was ransacked and vandalised during the early hours, with CCTV footage showing armed attackers damaging equipment, breaking televisions, and assaulting security personnel. Banerjee shared the video on social media, alleging a preplanned attack and slamming Kolkata Police for inaction while he was in Delhi. The Trinamool Congress alleged that around 300 individuals linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party were behind the incident. Drone footage published by news agency ANI on X captured the devastation caused by last week’s flash floods in Devighat in Nepal’s Nuwakot district. The bird’s-eye view video shows houses and other buildings severely damaged, with the town reduced to a landscape of mud and debris. Across Nepal, the death toll from the catastrophic flash floods rose to 1,222 on Thursday, while 4,875 people remained unaccounted for, according to official figures released by the government. Of those missing, 601 are foreign nationals, the authorities added.

A political controversy has emerged after Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha's name was deleted from the Punjab Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral draft list, where he has been marked as permanently shifted. Crying vendetta politics ahead of elections, Chadha alleged revenge politics by the Bhagwant Mann government. Countering the claims, the Aam Aadmi Party stated the SIR exercise is conducted by the Centre and alleged Chadha is attempting a backdated entry to shift to Delhi. With the final list expected on October 12, an appeal window remains open.
