The area, located near prominent colleges such as ARSD College, Shri Venkateshwar College, Motilal Nehru College, Ram Lal Anand College, Jesus and Mary College, and Maitreyi College, is widely known as an affordable hub for students. Ground reporting from adjacent paying guest accommodations revealed severe safety violations and hazardous living conditions. Multi-storey buildings housing dozens of students operate with cracked support beams, water-seeping ceilings, lack of windows, and no emergency fire exits. In some facilities, two separate five-storey buildings share a single narrow staircase lacking railings. Middlemen lease out flats and charge exorbitant rents, up to ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per bed, while basic safety norms remain compromised.

A ground reality check from Delhi's coaching hubs, including Mukherjee Nagar and Nehru Vihar, highlights severe safety hazards and living challenges faced by UPSC aspirants. In Indira Vihar, a residential building has visibly tilted and developed cracks between adjacent structures. Despite the Municipal Corporation of Delhi issuing a notice declaring the premises dangerous and instructing occupants to vacate, no demolition or corrective action has been executed. Aspirants residing in the vicinity express serious concern over structural instability, blocked drainage, and weakened ground foundations. The report also highlights the difficult living conditions in nearby Nehru Vihar, where students pay steep monthly rents of sixteen thousand rupees for damp, poorly maintained rooms with peeling plaster and rusted rods. Aspirants report facing high brokerage demands, lack of rent agreements, and arbitrary eviction threats from landlords who reside in safer, affluent neighbourhoods.

An eyewitness and first-year student from Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Rishit Ratodia, recounted the incident, sharing that his friend Atharv Rawat from Chhattisgarh remains trapped under the rubble. Ratodia stated that several new students who recently relocated for the academic session were inside the building, which housed a library and shops, when the structure collapsed. Concerns were raised regarding emergency response delays, crowd control issues, and structural compliance in student residential areas across the capital.
