Actor Taapsee Pannu comes out in support of Jaya Bachchan

Actor Taapsee Pannu has come out in support of Jaya Bachchan. Taking to Twitter, she said, "For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how ! Clapping hands sign yet again a woman from the industry spoke up." Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan raised concerns over ‘conspiracy to defame the film industry’ in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, a day after BJP’s Ravi Kishan claimed that drug addiction is in the film industry too. In a veiled dig at the BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut for their claims on drug menace in Bollywood, MP Jaya Bachchan said, “People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that govt tells such people not to use this kind of language.” Though Jaya Bachchan did not name BJP's Ravi Kishan, she said, “Just because there are some people, you can't tarnish the image of the entire industry. I am ashamed that yesterday one of our members in Lok Sabha, who is from the film industry, spoke against it. It is a shame.”

Tamil Nadu's Mettur Dam opens after 80-day delay, Cauvery farmers face uncertainty

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Vijay Joseph opened the sluice gates of the Mettur Dam in Salem, releasing water to farmers across the Cauvery Delta region following an 80-day delay. The traditional June opening was postponed to September due to severe rainfall deficits and inadequate water releases from Karnataka into the Stanley Reservoir. Current water storage provides roughly 35 to 40 days of irrigation, missing the Kuruvai planting season and leaving Samba cultivation reliant on future reservoir inflows and the northeast monsoon. TVK spokesperson Sathya Kumar cited natural conditions for the delay, emphasizing plans to pursue dialogue and enforce Supreme Court rulings regarding Karnataka's water allocations. A broadcast discussion further addresses legal and diplomatic avenues in the Cauvery water dispute, alongside Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s proposal to link the Godavari and Kaveri rivers. The report also details political protests in Karnataka over alleged recruitment irregularities and covers flood aftermath and survivor accounts from Nepal's Trishuli region.
