Tamil Nadu Gold Ring Scheme For Newborns, Madurai Visit And Welfare Push

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay launched the Thai Maaman Thangam scheme in Madurai, under which a one gram 22-karat gold ring is provided to newborn babies born in government hospitals to families from Tamil Nadu. The scheme is effective for infants born after 22 June 2026, marking the Chief Minister's birthday, and aims to benefit an estimated 4.42 lakh infants annually at an expenditure of 756 crore rupees. A total of 1.28 lakh rings have been prepared for the initial phase, featuring unique serial numbers and tamper-proof packaging. Alongside the launch at Madurai's Rajaji Government Hospital, the Chief Minister's itinerary includes visits to the Gandhi Memorial Museum and Meenakshi Amman Temple. Meanwhile, an Election Commission complaint was lodged regarding the scheme's rollout ahead of scheduled assembly by-elections in Dharapuram and Madurantakam.
