Once inside the shop, the animal stunned onlookers by drinking liquor directly from a bottle kept on the premises. An accused in the attack on Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh was shot dead in a police encounter in the Jhandher area of Amritsar. The suspect, identified as Karanvir Singh, had previously slipped away from custody after being arrested. When Amritsar Rural Police intercepted him, he opened fire, prompting retaliatory gunfire that resulted in fatal bullet injuries. Two Punjab Police personnel sustained injuries during the shootout, with one hit in the thigh and another saved by a bulletproof jacket. Police stated that Karanvir fired upon the ASI in Ajnala earlier in the month.
