An accused in the attack on Assistant Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh was shot dead in a police encounter in the Jhandher area of Amritsar. The suspect, identified as Karanvir Singh, had previously slipped away from custody after being arrested. When Amritsar Rural Police intercepted him, he opened fire, prompting retaliatory gunfire that resulted in fatal bullet injuries.
