Video: Breaking down Tiger Shroff assassination bid

How did Bollywood star Tiger Shroff survive an assassination attempt by the skin of his teeth? We slow down the footage leading up to the attack to offer a blow-by-blow account of how events unfolded.

Defence expert and India Today’s Consulting Editor Sandeep Unnithan describes it as a cold-blooded attack, pointing to the days of reconnaissance that preceded the attempt on the actor’s life. He also explains why these were not merely warning shots, but part of what appeared to be a planned attempt to kill.

Earlier on Monday, three men accused of firing at Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai were arrested from a train at Kota railway station in Rajasthan, following a 15-minute operation.

They were allegedly travelling from Mumbai towards Nepal.

Mumbai Police said none of the three accused was a minor. Two are 22 years old, while the third is 18. Two of them allegedly fired five to six rounds at Shroff’s car during the incident in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Raj Tilak Roshan said the motorcycle allegedly used in the firing was recovered from Mumbai’s Andheri area. No weapon was recovered from the three suspects, who are being brought to Mumbai from Rajasthan for questioning.

Police also said Rehan was in contact with Anil Pandit, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which claimed responsibility for the attack in an unverified social media post.

The motive behind the firing remains unclear. Police said Shroff had not previously reported receiving any threats.

Firing on Tiger Shroff: Lawrence Bishnoi Syndicate Targeting Bollywood for Extortion

A news bulletin examines the firing incident targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, analysing the operational methods and motives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Investigators suspect the brazen shooting is aimed at intimidating the film industry to run extortion rackets, similar to organised crime syndicates in the 1980s and 1990s. The gang reportedly uses threats linked to actor Salman Khan as a front while seeking illicit funds from celebrities. Concerns were raised over how jailed gang leaders manage to operate networks across India and internationally despite incarceration. Maharashtra authorities, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, warned of stringent action, stating that gangsters threatening citizens or celebrities will not be spared. Three shooters who fled towards Rajasthan were intercepted and arrested at Kota railway station in a joint police operation.

Behind Bars Yet Active: How Gang Syndicates Operate Across States From High-Security Jails

A criminal network continues to run extensive operations across multiple states despite its alleged leader remaining confined in high-security prisons since 2016. Originating from student politics and campus rivalries in Chandigarh, the syndicate expanded into a decentralised enterprise involving extortion, intimidation, and cross-border coordination. Recruits, often young individuals, receive weapons and specific targets through overseas handlers and intermediaries without direct contact with the leadership. Encrypted messaging applications and smuggled communication devices have facilitated cross-border planning and high-profile attacks against public figures, actors, and politicians. The syndicate drew significant national attention following threats linked to a 1998 wildlife poaching case, followed by gunfire outside an actor's residence and the fatal shooting of a former state minister in Mumbai. Despite repeated incidents, procedural safeguards, high-security protocols, and statutory requirements mandate special permissions from designated courts and the central home ministry before investigating agencies can secure custody or conduct interrogations inside prison facilities.
