Frothy Yamuna, smog-covered Delhi: Winter is coming

Delhi's air quality is deteriorating, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 293 on Friday, marking it as ‘poor.’

The AQI has been steadily rising over the past three days, prompting the Centre's air pollution control panel for Delhi-NCR to order the implementation of the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), effective from 8.00 am on October 15.

As winter approaches, the situation is expected to worsen, posing a growing health risk. Rising levels of stubble burning and colder weather conditions are likely to further deteriorate air quality. Noida, a key city in the Delhi-NCR region, has already seen a sharp rise in pollution, with its AQI increasing by 107 points over the last five days.

Toxic foam continues to float on the Yamuna River as the pollution crisis deepens.
