Youth Congress Protest In Chandigarh Over Rahul Gandhi FIR And Jobs Row Turns Violent

Punjab Civil Secretariat employees staged a strike against the Punjab government in Chandigarh over long-pending demands, including Dearness Allowance release, regularisation, full wages for young recruits, and allowances. The standoff continues despite High Court directions, with the state government approaching the Supreme Court. Protesting employees also demanded the withdrawal of punitive action and transfer orders issued following previous strikes. Employee representative Sukhchain Khaira stated that the administration must send a formal written invitation with an agenda to resolve the deadlock through dialogue, criticising the lack of meaningful steps on pay parity, full salaries, and benefits for retired personnel.

Following a building collapse in Satya Niketan adjacent to a paying guest accommodation, Municipal Corporation of Delhi personnel evacuated students and retrieved their belongings floor by floor. Students from Delhi University colleges including Sri Venkateswara College and Rajdhani College expressed concerns regarding safety and the shortage of hostel accommodation. With nearly 2.3 lakh students studying at the university and only around 8,000 hostel seats available across constituent colleges and the university, students stated that they are forced to live in cramped, unsafe private accommodations where fees frequently exceed annual college tuition fees. They urged the university administration to construct adequate hostel facilities.

Delhi University South Campus students staged a street protest in Satya Niketan following a building collapse that killed seven students. Protesting students termed the incident a result of civic negligence by municipal authorities, alleging that numerous paying guest accommodations operate illegally without structural safety measures. Demonstrators called for accountability from authorities and raised concerns over student safety in weak, uninspected buildings. The students presented a charter of demands, seeking one crore rupees in compensation for the families of each deceased student and twenty lakh rupees for the injured. They also demanded an urgent security and structural audit of all paying guest accommodations in the area, along with the provision of university hostels for South Campus students on par with North Campus. As Delhi Police personnel arrived to clear the road, the protesting students refused to vacate, calling for justice and criticising student organisations for failing to unite on student welfare and accommodation safety.

Speaking to RD India Today, Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav condemned the alleged abusive behaviour directed at Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad by BRS leaders, calling the incident unfortunate and unprecedented in the state. Yadav alleged that the BRS carries an anti-Dalit mindset, pointing to past unfulfilled promises by KCR, such as not appointing a Dalit Chief Minister and removing a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister. He criticised leaders KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao for allegedly behaving aggressively outside the assembly. Yadav denied allegations of a conspiracy regarding protests outside KCR's residence, stating that the Dalit community is expressing anger over the Speaker's humiliation. He also rejected allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy as fabricated.
