Hotel Management | Serving success | Institute of Hotel Management, Catering & Nutrition Kufri, Shimla
IHM Kufri’s focus on staying ahead of hospitality industry trends and enviable recruiter list has made it a favourite with students
Nestled amid the serene hills of Himachal Pradesh, the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering and Nutrition, Kufri, Shimla (IHM Kufri), is now one of the country’s leading hospitality institutes, moving from No. 15 in the rankings in 2022 to No. 10 by 2026. Besides its location, IHM Kufri’s emphasis on experiential and holistic learning sets it apart. The institute has invested heavily in modern infrastructure and practical training. With around 12 specialised kitchens equipped with advanced AI-enabled ovens, induction systems, tandoors, bakery facilities and other contemporary equipment, students are exposed to technologies and techniques adopted globally by the industry.
Live demonstrations by renowned chefs, interactions with hospitality experts and exposure visits to leading hotels help bridge the gap between theory and practice. Executive Chef Shaun from Dubai-based ADNH Catering and chef Nand Lal, known for putting the local Himachali cuisine on the gourmet map, are among the experts who have guided students through specialised sessions.
Industry engagement forms one of the strongest pillars of IHM Kufri’s professional network. The institute has established links with prominent hospitality brands, including Taj Theog (Shimla), Lemon Tree Hotels, Royal Orchid Hotels and ITC Hotels. It also has an MoU with ADNHC, one of the UAE’s big hospitality providers, which has recruited 150 students from the institute in the past three years. The Oberoi, Marriott, Taj Enterprises Ltd, Radisson MBD, Le Mridien and ITC Hotels are among the leading domestic recruiters. Significantly, these opportunities extend not only to degree students but also to diploma holders. Principal Mukul Dimri says retail food chains such as Domino’s, Haldiram’s and Pizza Hut have become another emerging placement avenue for students.
IHM Kufri is also keeping up with emerging trends. Greater emphasis is now being placed on nutrition, millet-based foods, local cuisines and sustainability. Students are introduced to contemporary developments such as automation, robotics and artificial intelligence through lectures and industry interactions. As the hospitality sector embraces the new era, IHM Kufri is positioning itself at the intersection of tradition, innovation and industry engagement.
