RRR echoes at New York City Hall as Zohran Mamdani presents Rental Rip-off report

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has now joined the long list of people smitten with SS Rajamouli's RRR, years after its release. On July 16, while presenting the Rental Rip-off Report at New York City Hall, Mamdani joked that the report, also known as RRR, should not be confused with the 2022 Tollywood blockbuster, drawing laughter from those present.

While addressing the media, Mamdani left everyone in splits as he introduced the Rental Rip-off Report, a package of 23 housing policies based on testimonies from thousands of New Yorkers.

During his speech, he said, "Today, City Hall delivers on that promise. This Rental Rip-off Report, also known as RRR, not to be confused with the 2022 Tollywood smash hit, is based on thousands of testimonies."

The candid reference to the Jr NTR and Ram Charan-starrer left his staff members in splits.

Reacting to the mention, the official X handle of RRR shared the clip and wrote, "More than 4 years. 7 seas away. And RRR echoes at New York City Hall. Mayor @ZohranKMamdani's new housing initiative shares its name with our film, introduced as 'the 2022 Tollywood smash hit'."

The team added that the recognition was a "testimony of how deep RRR went, and how it stays in everyone's hearts," even four years after its release.

Directed by SS Rajamouli, RRR stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, with supporting performances by Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.

The film received widespread acclaim not only in India but also across the world. Several Hollywood filmmakers, including James Cameron, praised the film. Its song, Naatu Naatu, also made history by becoming the first Indian film song to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 95th Oscars.

Produced by DVV Entertainment, RRR was made on a budget of around Rs 500 crore and went on to earn over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide.
