Resignation From Power, J&K Politics and Survival of National Conference

A former three-time Member of the Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir, who served with the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference for twenty-five years, explains his decision to relinquish power and surrender his legislative seat on principled grounds. Addressing the prevailing political climate, he characterizes his move as a conscious choice driven by conviction rather than political opportunism. He outlines his intention to mobilize trustworthy individuals committed to ethical politics before establishing a formal political alternative, while noting that he may contest an upcoming by-election as an independent candidate. Reflecting on the state of the ruling party, he asserts that the organization has abandoned its core ideology and promises. He further observes that the survival and cohesion of the National Conference remain inextricably tied to the presence of party patriarch Farooq Abdullah, expressing doubt over its long-term viability under its current leadership direction.
