Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has opened a new chapter in US-Pakistan defence cooperation — but much of the deal remains hidden.
The Pakistan Army has signed an MoU with US-based drone company POWERUS and placed an initial order for unmanned aerial systems. But the value of Pakistan’s order has not been disclosed. Neither have the exact systems, their capabilities or their intended deployment.
The development comes shortly after POWERUS secured a separate $22.3 million counter-drone contract in the Middle East, raising fresh questions about the kind of technology the company is now supplying internationally.
Could Pakistan’s deal eventually involve advanced surveillance or counter-drone capabilities? Is Islamabad looking beyond simply purchasing equipment and exploring joint technology development and manufacturing inside Pakistan?
There is also another intriguing layer. POWERUS is expected to merge with a company backed by an investment fund linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. POWERUS says the Trump brothers are passive investors and were not involved in negotiations.
