Video: Researchers observe peculiar animal behaviors during total solar eclipse

Researchers are eagerly anticipating the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, hoping to witness intriguing animal behaviours at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas.

Following surprising observations during the 2017 eclipse in South Carolina, where animals displayed unusual actions such as Galapagos tortoises engaging in breeding and giraffes galloping anxiously, scientists are eager to expand their understanding.

Adam Hartstone-Rose, a researcher at North Carolina State University, highlights the significance of these observations, emphasizing the limited window for study and the inability to replicate such events. Meanwhile, entomologist Jennifer Tsuruda from the University of Tennessee notes changes in honeybee behaviour, indicating a conflict between internal rhythms and external conditions.

Oregon Institute of Technology's Nate Bickford reveals how eclipses mimic fast-moving storms, prompting various species to seek shelter. With the eclipse occurring in a different season this year, researchers are poised to uncover new insights into animal responses, including potential impacts on migration patterns and the behaviors of indoor pets.
