Asian Games 2026 Highlights, October 1: India beat Pakistan in hockey semis, Nitesh wins wrestling silver

Asian Games Highlights, October 1: The Indian men's hockey team beat Pakistan 4-3 and advanced to the final. The men's squash is in action in semis against Malaysia. Manu Francis and Prince Noble Kurisinkal have pulled off a sensational performance to bag silver in the men's skiff race. The Indian women took home the squash bronze while Nitesh Siwach is assured of a wrestling medal. Ganesh Maniratnam ended India's archery campaign in compound events with a bronze in the men's individual event.

Sailing: India win women's skiff bronze medal
Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma finish third overall in the Women’s Skiff Opening Series after nine races at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor.
The Indian pair finished fourth in Race 9, but their overall net score of 24 points puts them third in the standings, behind Japan and Hong Kong, China.

Sport Climbing: Deepu misses out on men's Speed 4 quarterfinals
India's Deepu Mallesh failed to qualify for the men's Speed 4 quarterfinals in sport climbing after finishing outside the qualification spots in the preliminary round. His campaign in the event ends at this stage.

Asian Games Live: Wrestling - Mansi fights back
Mansi is back in the contest with a minute left in the second period, earning a point after her opponent is penalised for passivity. She immediately looks to build on that momentum.
The Indian wrestler goes for another double-leg takedown, but the Mongolian produces some excellent defence to deny the attempt. Mansi keeps pressing, though, and manages to eke out another point despite Togtokh’s resistance.
Both wrestlers are now going for it, with the bout opening up. But it is the Mongolian who lands the next telling move, securing a takedown for two points and extending her advantage.
There are some interesting scenes on the mat as India challenges the decision, but the review does not go in Mansi’s favour.

Wrestling Live: Mansi trails 2-0
Two quick points inside the opening minute for Mongolia's Togtokh Altjin, putting India’s Mansi on the back foot early in the first period.
Mansi responds with a double-leg takedown attempt, but the Mongolian wrestler defends it well and keeps India’s wrestler from converting the attack.
Mansi is showing some solid defence while continuing to look for an opening. However, Togtokh is defending effectively as well, making it difficult for Mansi to find the points she needs.
The first period is nearing its end, with Mansi still trailing 2-0 but continuing to push forward.

Squash Live: India lose to Malaysia
Velavan Senthilkumar’s valiant fight ends in heartbreak as India miss out on a place in the final and had to settle for bronze.
Velavan lost the third game 8-11 after being 6-4 ahead and looking well placed to force the contest into a fifth game.
However, Malaysia held their nerve in the closing stages to seal the tie. Malaysia will now face Pakistan in the gold-medal match.

India’s Mansi is up next in the wrestling competition, taking on Mongolia’s Togtokh Altjin.
The bronze medal bout is set to begin shortly, with both wrestlers looking to make an early mark. Mansi will be aiming to put India back on the mat after Nitesh’s silver-medal finish.

That’s the end of the bout. India’s Nitesh finishes with the silver medal after losing 4-0 to Japan’s Nakazato Yuri in the final.
Nakazato takes the opening period 2-0, putting Nitesh under early pressure. The Japanese wrestler manages to keep India’s Nitesh from finding a way onto the scoreboard.
The second period follows a similar pattern, with Nakazato adding another 2 points to take the period 2-0 and extend the overall lead to 4-0.
Nitesh pushes for an opening but cannot register a point against Nakazato, who maintains his advantage until the final whistle.
India’s Nitesh takes home the silver medal, while Nakazato Yuri wins gold with a 4-0 victory.

Squash Live: Must-win for Velavan
Velavan Senthilkumar is now fighting to stay alive in the semi-final after losing the third game 8-11 to Ameeshenraj Chandaran.
Velavan was in trouble at 2-7 but produced a superb fightback to level the game at 7-7. However, Chandaran held his nerve in the closing stages to take the game and move 2-1 ahead.
Velavan now must win the fourth game to keep his final hopes alive.

Judo Live: Inunganbi loses bronze medal bout
Inunganbi Takhellambam’s Asian Games campaign ended in heartbreak as the Indian judoka lost the women’s 70kg bronze-medal bout to Mongolia’s Anujin Uran-Ulzii in Nagoya.
Inunganbi had fought her way into the medal contest through the repechage after losing her quarter-final to North Korea’s Song Hui Mun.
Her bronze hopes had been revived when China’s Jing Tang was disqualified, but she ultimately missed out on the podium.

The Indian men's squash team is taking on Malaysia in the semi-final clash.
India's Abhay Singh, who won silver medal in the men's individual campaign lost the first match of the tie. He was blanked 3-0 by Eain Yow, who won 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in 27 minutes.
However, India are trying to make a comeback. Veer Chotrani has started well in the second match of the semi-final tie and has won the opening game 11-4.

Hockey live: India beat Pakistan 4-3
India have done it! In a thrilling finish, the men’s hockey team snatched victory from Pakistan with just 50 seconds remaining.
Abhishek unleashed a shot that was initially saved, but the rebound stayed alive before a Pakistan stick deflected the ball into the net.
India led 3-0 before Pakistan fought back to level at 3-3, but the late goal sealed a dramatic 4-3 win and sent India into the final.
After the match, the Indian and Pakistan players also shook hands.
