England vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I: Highlights from Cardiff

Time for a trip up North - Well, the three-match T20I series is done and dusted in terms of who wins the series, but there's still plenty to play for. England will be eyeing a clean sweep and extending their unbeaten T20I run against Sri Lanka to 15 matches, whereas the Lankans will be desperate to break that streak and head into the ODIs with some confidence behind them. The third and final T20I is set to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, scheduled to begin at 1.30 pm GMT on Saturday, 19 September. However, as usual, you can join us well in advance for the build-up of that game as well. Until then, take care and goodbye.

Now, the victorious skipper of England - Harry Brook says that it was a special performance from the team, and they got off to a flier with the bat, which was excellent. He says that Liam was brilliant with the ball, and he says that spin played a part, so they went with two spinners in the team. He reckons that Liam Dawson is a brilliant bowler and he gets things done. When asked about Jos, he says that Buttler is a phenomenal player and it's just a delight to watch him play. He ends by saying that they are really happy with the series win.

A chat with Sri Lanka's captain - Charith Asalanka says that they are disappointed with the performance, especially after losing their way with the bat despite a solid Powerplay. Feels that losing wickets in a heap was bad and goes on to say that England were a class side. Ends by saying that they need to take a few difficult calls and improve.

Player of the Match - For his figures of 3/32 in 4 overs, Liam Dawson has been given the award. Dawson says that he tries to keep it simple and bowls on proper lines and lengths. When asked about his role in the team, he says that he keeps bowling wicket to wicket and tries to get wickets. He ends by saying that he is happy with the win.

Getting over the line in style - England endured a tough start with the ball, but bounced back in style, thanks to a double-wicket over from Liam Dawson. Jamie Overton then broke the back of the Lankan middle order before the likes of Sonny Baker, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid added the finishing touches. With the bat, it was a similar story to Sri Lanka's Powerplay, as the English openers got out of the blocks quickly. They both did get out soon after the Powerplay, but Jos Buttler did become the first batter to surpass 15000 T20 runs. Brook played a quickfire cameo, but it was Tom Banton's unbeaten and flying fifty that got England over the line in just 12.1 overs.

Under par throughout the game - Sri Lanka were put into bat by Harry Brook and got off to an absolute flier, racing to 55/0 inside the Powerplay. But it all came crashing down quickly as they were reduced to 95/5, and another flurry of wickets at the death saw Sri Lanka unable to even cross the 150-run mark on a pitch that looked conducive to batting. There wasn't much to write home about with the ball either, as they bowed down to the English batters. Dushmantha Chameera was the only one who didn't go for more than 10 runs an over, just though. Sri Lanka will now look to put together a more complete performance in the last game.

That's that - England seal the series without breaking a sweat, and that too with one game left. They have now beaten Sri Lanka in 14 straight T20I matches, which is a staggering stat in itself.

Malinga is well inside the ropes and lunges across horizontally to snaffle it with both hands, and Brook's fast start has come to an end.

We are back for the run chase. The umpires are back out in the middle and the Sri Lankan players can be seen in a huddle near the boundary ropes. ... THE RUN CHASE ...

The death overs masterclass - Any hopes of a late Sri Lankan flourish were ruthlessly stamped out at the death. Young Sonny Baker bowled a stunning 19th-over wicket-maiden to remove Hasaranga and finish with magnificent figures of 1/15, before Jofra Archer knocked over two more in the final over to choke out the innings. Sri Lanka dragged themselves to 145/9 from their 20 overs, completing a brilliant fightback from England's bowlers and leaving the hosts with a chase of 146 to win.

The middle overs squeeze - The double blow sucked the life out of Sri Lanka’s scoring rate as England tightened the screws through the middle overs. Overton struck key blows to remove both Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis, before Dawson claimed his third wicket to leave the visitors staggering at 95/5. Charith Asalanka fought hard with 31, and Wanindu Hasaranga threw a few punches late on with an 18-run onslaught against Dawson, but regular wickets continually derailed their push toward a defendable total.

A blazing start and the Dawson twist - Sri Lanka got off to an absolute flyer in Cardiff after being put in to bat, with Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara tearing into England's pace attack to race to fifty inside five overs. Just as the visitors looked primed to run away with the Powerplay, Harry Brook turned to Liam Dawson, who flipped the match completely on its head. Dawson removed Udara and immediately sent back Kamil Mishara for a golden duck off the very next ball, leaving Sri Lanka stalled at 56/2 after an explosive start.

19.6: Jofra Archer to Tharindu Ratnayake, OUT! CAUGHT! Jofra Archer does get his man, and Sri Lanka end up with 145/9 on the board. Archer hits a hard length, bowling it over the top of off and middle. Tharindu Ratnayake stands tall and hangs back, looking to hit through the line. The ball goes off the higher part of the blade and lobs down to long on, where Harry Brook takes a simple catch.

Short-pitched delivery over middle. Ratnayake backs away to pull but gets a top edge around the short third region. Baker comes in from the deep and puts in a late dive but can't get his hands on the ball. Two taken.

19.4: Jofra Archer to Eshan Malinga, Jos Buttler isn't pleased with his effort and rightly so. Slower one, back of a length and angled across off. Malinga has a feel for it and gets beaten past the outside edge. Ratnayake scampers for the bye and Buttler, after intiating fumbling the ball on the bounce, fails to hit the stumps.

19.3: Jofra Archer to Dushmantha Chameera, OUT! BOWLED'EM! Jofra Archer does get a wicket in his 50th T20I. Archer serves it full and straight, getting it to seam away a bit. Dushmantha Chameera backs away and just swings across the line, missing it completely. The ball smashes into the middle stump and sends it cartwheeling out of the ground.

Chameera backs away and slices it towards backward point, but the ball dips on the fielder and awkwardly so. Jacks dives forward and doesn't quite get the fingers underneath.
