She opened with an ace, followed it with a forehand winner and, after another double fault brought Sabalenka within two points, Rybakina produced another forehand winner to earn match point.

She then sealed a stunning victory with an ace, defeating Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the US Open title.

What a dramatic game!

Sabalenka looked in control at 30-0 after a backhand winner and an ace, but Rybakina fought her way back.

A double fault from Sabalenka handed Rybakina a break point, and although she missed her first chance, she earned another after a Sabalenka backhand error.

This time, Rybakina made no mistake, sealing the break with a brilliant forehand volley winner. She now leads 5-2 and will serve for the US Open title.
