Samsung could launch second TriFold phone next year, Galaxy S27 Pro also tipped
Samsung could bring back its TriFold smartphone in 2027, according to a new report, as part of its reported '4+4' strategy. The company is also tipped to launch a new Galaxy S27 Pro alongside its flagship lineup.
Samsung may not be done with tri-fold smartphones just yet. After launching its first Galaxy Z TriFold as a limited-edition device last year, the company is now reportedly preparing a second-generation model that could arrive in 2027. Interestingly, Samsung is also said to be expanding both its flagship Galaxy S lineup and foldable portfolio next year.
Samsung's new 4+4 strategy explained
According to a report by ETNews, Samsung is working on a new "4+4" strategy for 2027. Under this plan, the company is expected to launch four Galaxy S27 models in the first half of the year, followed by four foldable phones in the second half. The report claims Samsung has already shared details of the next-generation TriFold project with its supply chain partners and has entered the early stages of development.
If the report is accurate, Samsung's Galaxy S27 series could include the standard Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus, Galaxy S27 Ultra, and a brand-new Galaxy S27 Pro model. On the foldable side, Samsung is tipped to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and the second-generation Galaxy Z TriFold.
Galaxy Z TriFold 2: What to expect
For those unfamiliar with the TriFold, it is a smartphone that folds twice using two hinges instead of one. When fully unfolded, it offers a tablet-sized display measuring nearly 10 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it better suited for watching videos, gaming, and multitasking than a regular foldable phone. However, because of its larger size and extra hinge, the phone is heavier, costlier and less comfortable to use with one hand.
The first Galaxy Z TriFold was never intended to be a mass-market product. Samsung reportedly manufactured only around 30,000 units worldwide, using the device primarily to showcase its latest display and hinge technologies rather than to generate large sales. ETNews says Samsung is now considering increasing production for the second-generation model after testing market response with the first version, though the final production volume has not yet been decided.
The report also suggests the new TriFold could launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series around July 2027, instead of arriving later as a special edition like its predecessor. While specifications remain under wraps, the display size is expected to stay similar to the current model.
Samsung has not officially confirmed any of these plans. So, we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt. Another thing is that if the report proves accurate in the coming days, 2027 will be Samsung’s biggest year for premium smartphones, with eight flagship devices spread across its Galaxy S and foldable lineups.
