After Seedance 2.0 went viral for its realistic AI videos, ByteDance is back with an even more capable model, Seedance 2.5. Here's everything you need to know.
TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, has rolled out Seedance 2.5, an advanced AI video generation model. It comes with a significant upgrade over its predecessor, Seedance 2.0, with support for more reference materials such as images, videos and audio files. The company released a 4:22-minute-long high-quality AI video on X, teasing and highlighting the power of the new model.
A quick recap, the debut of Seedance 2.0 in February this year created massive waves across the internet. A remarkably realistic Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt fighting video went viral, receiving mixed responses. From the general public, a deep sense of awe, and from Hollywood movie firms, copyright lawsuits. Now, new Seedance 2.5 is finally here.
What Seedance 2.5 brings
Unlike Seedance 2.0, which only receives 12 reference materials in a single prompt — think images, videos, and audio files. In the new model, users can input up to 30 images, 10 video clips, and 10 audio clips as reference materials in a single take. Notably, the more reference materials you add, the more refined the output the AI produces, making the result far more likely to match the visual or thoughts you have in your mind.
Another major improvement in the new model is the duration. While the previous model was capable of producing videos up to 15 seconds, the Seedance 2.5 doubled that to 30 seconds. The Chinese company stated that it offers “timestamp-level control” for targeted editing of audio-video content. This makes the model more efficient and controllable for creating something complex, involving multiple scenes, subjects, and camera angles.
ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 is now available through both Jimeng AI and Doubao Pro, with API access set to follow via Volcano Engine Ark. ByteDance is not the only company releasing top-notch video-generating AIs. The launch of Seedance 2.5 put the company in direct competition with other major Chinese players that are producing AI videos like Kuaishou's Kling and Alibaba's Wan. Seedance 2.5 is mainly built to serve two different kinds of users: everyday creators looking to generate seamless, multi-scene videos, and professionals in film, advertising, and content production who need tighter control and reference-based editing.
