Nepal Flash Floods: Over 1,300 Dead, 5,000 Missing as Rescues Continue

The flood situation in Bihar has worsened as the water level of the river Ganga continues to rise, submerging several villages in the Raghopur Diyara region of Vaishali district. Floodwaters have overtaken rural access roads, forcing hundreds of residents to abandon their homes and move to safer locations. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticised the state government, stating that the situation in flood-affected regions is alarming and alleging inadequate arrangements for rescue, relief camps, boats, and drinking water. Meanwhile, authorities stated that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the situation and conducting inspections to ensure necessary relief reaches affected families.

A fatal road accident on Shamshabad Airport Road resulted in the death of an airport employee, Radhika, while her friend sustained severe injuries. The incident occurred around 6:00 AM when an airport cab allegedly rammed into their motorcycle from behind at high speed. The impact threw both riders off the vehicle, causing Radhika to die on the spot. CCTV footage captured the collision. Police reached the scene, shifted the injured individual to a hospital, and sent Radhika's body for post-mortem examination. The cab driver, identified as Umar Khan, was taken into custody by Shamshabad police as an investigation is underway.

Innovators have presented solutions targeting various sources of pollution, including non-exhaust particulate emissions, vehicle idling, and roadside hotspots. Highlights include a tyre particle collector proposed by student Anvi Singh, Mirza Arif's Pollred device designed to capture road and tyre dust on buses, and Axel One's Atmos Pole deployed at Rajghat as a solar-powered multi-functional air-cleaning street light. Additionally, Ecosystem Private Limited founders Prathiraj Kumar and Sumit Pawar introduced Pawan 3, a multi-layer HEPA filtration device designed for traffic signals and roadside hotspots. Young entrepreneurs Siddhant Kumar Nishad and Tejas from Matiyari Technology Private Limited also presented their indigenous microalgae-based air purification system, currently deployed at Anand Vihar ISBT, which absorbs carbon dioxide and generates oxygen through photosynthesis.

Ahead of a key campus outreach event, the opposition launched a coordinated offensive against the ruling administration over the state of the education system, youth unemployment, and paper leak controversies. The party raised concerns regarding governance failures impacting students, stating that academic standards and the future of an entire generation have been undermined over the past twelve years. Highlighting ground-level feedback from recent visits regarding the condition of government schools and student agitations across the country, the party intensified its criticism concerning joblessness and systemic issues affecting the youth.
