Delhi constable, absconding after killing wife in public, shoots himself dead
Investigators are probing the circumstances of Manish Bhati's death while completing legal formalities. The Delhi Police constable had been absconding since allegedly killing his wife, Priyanka, on Monday.

Delhi Police constable Manish Bhati, who had been absconding after allegedly shooting his wife dead on her birthday in East Delhi's Kalyanpuri area on Monday, was found dead in Mayur Vihar Phase-1 on Tuesday after he allegedly shot himself in the head with his service pistol, police said.
According to police, Bhati died on the spot, bringing a dramatic end to the manhunt launched a day earlier in connection with the murder case.
Bhati's body was found in the parking area behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mayur Vihar Phase-1. He allegedly used his service pistol to shoot himself in the head.
Officers from the Mayur Vihar police station reached the spot, took possession of the body and sent it to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding his death while completing legal formalities.
Bhati, a 2022-batch Delhi Police constable posted with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS), had been on the run since Monday after allegedly killing his wife, Priyanka, a teacher at a private school in Ashok Vihar.
BHATI MURDERED HIS WIFE
Following the incident, Delhi Police formed multiple teams and conducted raids across Delhi-NCR and parts of Haryana in an effort to trace him.
Investigators said the couple had left their New Vinod Nagar residence together on a scooter in the early hours of Monday following an argument.
CCTV footage allegedly showed them stopping on a roadside in the Kalyanpuri area near Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where another argument broke out before Bhati allegedly pulled out his service pistol and shot Priyanka in the chest. He then fled the scene, leaving her critically injured on the road.
Priyanka was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital by passers-by, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police had registered a murder case and launched a search operation, relying on CCTV footage, electronic evidence and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events.
DOWRY HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS
Priyanka's family has alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment after the couple married in 2023 and claimed she had earlier approached the women's cell with complaints against Bhati and his family.
Police said the allegations are being verified as part of the investigation.
With the accused now dead, investigators are expected to complete the remaining legal procedures, including the post-mortem and forensic examination, while continuing the probe into the murder and the allegations raised by the victim's family.
