According to police, Vaishnavi had been living in a rented room in the MIG police station area. Preliminary investigation suggests that she had been in a relationship with a young man for nearly a year.

On the day of the incident, the young man allegedly tried to contact her several times over the phone. After receiving no response, he reached her rented accommodation. Finding the room locked from inside, he sought the landlord's assistance to open the door. When they entered the room, Vaishnavi was found hanging, police said.

Investigators said a message written in English with white chalk was found on the wall of the room. According to police, the note stated that she had taken the step of her own will. It also expressed affection for her mother, brother and boyfriend, while reportedly holding her father and grandmother responsible for her decision.
