Hours after arrest for assaulting doctors, Maharashtra corporator gets hospitalised

Arrested Dombivali corporator Ramesh Mhatre was admitted to Thane Civil Hospital after complaining of chest pain, breathlessness and high blood pressure. Doctors treated him while protesting the alleged assault, as the court insisted he be produced physically and hospital services in Dombivali resumed with security in place.

Mhatre was hospitalised at Thane Civil hospital and as per doctors and staff he complained of breathlessness.

Few hours after his arrest, accused Dombivali Corporator Ramesh Mhatre who had assaulted doctors and medical staff at Shastri Nagar hospital in Dombivali complained of Chest pain, breathlessness and High blood pressure. Aged 73, Mhatre was then hospitalised at the Thane Civil Hospital. On Thursday morning, protests happened also at the Thane Civil hospital where doctors, nurses and other staff staged agitation against Mhatre who was hospitalised at the hospital undergoing treatment.

A senior doctor from Thane Civil hospital said " We are treating Mhatre as it is our duty to give him treatment and we will see that he gets proper treatment but we are also staging this agitation as a sign of protest against him and his act where he attacked doctors and medical staff at municipal hospital in Dombivali. His condition is not proper and he survives on only one Kidney, he is aged 73 and has high blood pressure and vomitted thrice since morning so he is not advised to be moved today from the hospital till he is stable".

Mhatre remained hospitalised at Thane Civil hospital and as per doctors and staff he complained of breathlessness , also two to three times vomitted and the blood pressure was high so he couldn't be taken to the court Physically as doctors advised against it. The Police then approached Kalyan court seeking permission to produce Mhatre before the court through video conference but the application was rejected by the court and court ordered that Mhatre should be produced physically before the court.

Advocate AY Patki representing Mhatre in court said " the court rejected the police application to produce Mhatre through video conferencing and said that he needs to be produced physically in court to seek remand or majestrial custody. Till the doctors don't allow police won't be able to produce him physically in court and it is doctors opinion to whether when to discharge and allow him to be taken to court physically ".

Meanwhile the agitation and strike that had been stopped at Kalyan and Dombivali Municipal Hospitals after the attack by Mhatre and his goons at the Dombivali hospital, on Thursday after his arrest and security being needed up work started at the hospital and all the staff resumed duties . The Out patient department which was not functioning since past two days started functioning as the staff called off the agitation after Mhatre's arrest and security being provided . Also the senior doctors at the Shastri Nagar municipal CMO Denied that any of the doctors who had been assaulted by Mhatre and his goons had resigned and said that they had no idea or any intimation about it.

CMO Sadia Pinjari from Shastri Nagar Municipal Hospital said " The staff have resumed duties at the hospital and the agitation has been called off, all the services are functional now at the Shastri Nagar hospital as we had demanded security and it has been provided to us now. We have no intimation regarding the victim doctors resignation and we haven't received it from them yet"..

Sources from the Dombivali police said that as the court had rejected the video conference application to produce Mhatre in court now they will have to wait for the doctors to allow and discharge Mhatre and then he will be produced in court but couldn't say exactly when he could be produced .
