47 duped in Rs 5.57 crore Mumbai Slum Rehab flat fraud, FIR names ex-Sena aide
Mumbai Police have registered an FIR over alleged cheating in SRA PAP flat deals. The case centres on forged documents, buyer payments and the roles of multiple accused.
A case of alleged fraud involving Project Affected Person (PAP) flats under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has surfaced in Mumbai, with police registering an FIR over the alleged cheating of Rs 5.57 crore.
Among those named in the case is Vishwanath Jadhav, a former personal secretary to a Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC who is currently serving as the personal assistant to a sitting Member of Parliament.
The case was registered following a complaint by Akash Radheshyam Soni, who alleged that he and his business associates were duped on the promise of securing PAP flats across Mumbai.
According to the complaint, Soni and his business partner were engaged in the real estate business in 2017 when they came into contact with Shailesh Kakan and his associates.
The accused allegedly claimed to have links with senior SRA officials and other influential individuals and assured them that PAP flats could be arranged in areas including Andheri, Santacruz, Bandra, Kandivali and Matunga.
RS 5.57 CRORE COLLECTED FROM 47 BUYERS
The complaint states that the accused quoted prices ranging between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 28 lakh for flats under different SRA projects. Based on these assurances, Soni allegedly collected money from around 47 customers through his company.
Police said the total amount collected reached Rs 5.57 crore, with payments made through cheques, RTGS transfers and other banking channels. The complainant alleged that the accused accepted money in multiple instalments, including token amounts, while repeatedly assuring buyers that allotments would soon be completed.
ALLEGEDLY FORGED DOCUMENTS USED
According to the FIR, the accused allegedly provided documents purportedly issued by the SRA, including allotment letters, Collector's communications, competent authority approvals, society No Objection Certificates (NOCs), electricity bills and other official records.
However, when the complainant approached SRA officials in 2024 to verify the documents, he was allegedly informed that they were forged and did not match official government records.
SEVERAL ACCUSED NAMED
The FIR names Shailesh Kakan, Rupesh Velenkar, Abhishek Gujar, Vishwanath Jadhav and several others, alleging they acted together in a planned conspiracy to cheat buyers by promising PAP flats.
The complaint further alleges that Vishwanath Jadhav had assured one of the complainants that he could secure a flat in exchange for Rs 25 lakh. Police have also named him as an accused in the case.
Mumbai Police have begun investigating the financial transactions, the authenticity of the documents submitted to buyers, and the specific roles of each accused. The probe is ongoing.
