The deceased, identified as Armaan, had reportedly arranged a water tanker as residents claimed the locality had been facing an acute water crisis for nearly two months. According to locals, he was connecting the pump's electrical line to transfer water from the tanker to his home when he came into contact with a live wire and suffered a severe electric shock.
Armaan was rushed to Batra Hospital on Saturday evening by his relatives and neighbours, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, angry residents staged a protest, blaming the ongoing water shortage for the tragedy. Protesters also raised slogans against local Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Prem Chauhan, demanding better water supply in the area.
Police said Armaan, a resident of Tigri JJ Camp, was wiring a water pump near his house when the accident occurred. A case has been registered, and legal proceedings are underway.
Armaan worked as a carpenter and is survived by his wife and four children.
