Telangana college principal allegedly assaulted after candidate caught cheating in exam

A candidate allegedly assaulted the principal of Government Degree College in Bhainsa after being questioned over suspected copying in an examination.

Tension prevailed at the Government Degree College in Bhainsa town of Telangana's Nirmal district on Tuesday after a candidate appearing for an examination allegedly assaulted the college principal when confronted over suspected malpractice.

The incident led to protests by the college's teaching staff, with lecturers wearing black badges to condemn the alleged attack and demanding strict action against the accused.

The protesting staff also called for stronger measures to ensure the safety of teaching staff in educational institutions.

According to college officials, Ganga Srikanth was appearing for the second-semester examination of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University when he was allegedly found copying during the examination.

Principal K Buchaiah reportedly questioned him over the alleged malpractice.

Officials alleged that the candidate then reacted aggressively, pushed the principal and assaulted an invigilator and other members of the college staff.

During the altercation, he also allegedly tore up his own answer sheet.

Following the incident, Principal Buchaiah lodged a complaint with the local police, seeking legal action against the accused. Police are expected to investigate the allegations.

In recent years, cases of question paper leaks and examination malpractices have seen a sharp rise, with major examinations such as NEET and UGC NET coming under scrutiny.

The incident has drawn attention to concerns over the safety of educators and the need for stricter enforcement of examination rules, after college staff in Bhainsa protested against the alleged assault on the principal and sought action in the case.
