Alka Yagnik gets love from fans as Padma Bhushan appearance sparks health concerns
Alka Yagnik received the Padma Bhushan from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23. The ceremony video prompted fans to send wishes as concern grew over her frail appearance.

Singer Alka Yagnik was conferred with the Padma Bhushan by Droupadi Murmu during the second investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23. After the video from the ceremony emerged online, worried fans reacted over the icon’s frail appearance and sent their wishes.
While many congratulated the 60-year-old singer, others extended their heartiest wishes for her speedy recovery from hearing loss. The Bollywood playback singer who left a deep impact with her voice in the 90s was diagnosed with rare Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL) in 2024. Caused by a sudden viral attack, the condition severely impaired her hearing, forced her to step back from singing assignments, and prompted her to warn the public about the dangers of loud music.
One of the X users wrote, “Eminent playback singer 'Alka Yagnik" conferred with Padma Bhushan by President Droupadi Murmu. Just came to know that she is suffering from hearing loss. Very unfortunate,” while another wrote, “As a kid, I didn't know much about singers. I only knew that whenever an Alka Yagnik song played, life somehow felt a little better. Years later, those songs are still part of my memories, road trips, celebrations, and quiet evenings. Seeing her receive the Padma Bhushan feels special. Wishing her strength and good health as she battles hearing loss. Some voices become part of our lives forever.”
A third user chimed in and wrote, “A truly deserved Padma Bhushan for Alka Yagnik Ji. Heartbreaking to think that she may not have been able to hear the thunderous applause that welcomed her today. Wishing her a full recovery very soon. A voice that has touched generations.”
A viral video from the ceremony showed the singer walking with the help of an attendant. Before walking up to President Droupadi Murmu, she touched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s feet to seek his blessings.
Other than Alka, Mammootty, R Madhavan, and late Satish Shah were also honoured at the prestigious ceremony.
For the late actor Satish Shah, his brother Arvind Shah received the award on his behalf.
This year, the President approved 131 Padma Awards, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours.
