Kannada actor Divya Suresh alleges street harassment in Bengaluru, questions safety
Kannada actor Divya Suresh said an unidentified man harassed her and her cousin while they walked to their car in Bengaluru late on Sunday night. She shared the episode on social media and questioned the safety assurances made to women in the city.
Kannada actor Divya Suresh, known for her appearance on Bigg Boss Kannada, alleged that she was harassed by an unidentified man while walking with her cousin to her car in Bengaluru late on Sunday night. She shared the incident on social media and raised concerns about women’s safety in the city.
According to 33-year-old Divya Suresh, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Sunday when she and her cousin were heading to their car. She said the man followed them, behaved in an obscene manner, and continued even after they noticed him and confronted him.
In her Instagram Story, she wrote, “Tonight, my cousin and I were walking to our car at around 11.30 pm when a man started following us. While following us, he was openly touching himself. We noticed it immediately and called him out, but he still didn’t stop. He continued until we got into our car.”
In her post, the actor said no woman should have to face harassment simply “because she’s walking at night”. She also tagged Bengaluru Police and ended her Instagram Story with the question, “Where is the safety we keep being promised?”
She also recorded the incident on camera and shared the video on her Instagram Story. According to the clip, Divya Suresh said she was making a video, while her cousin pointed towards the man and asked her to “look at his hand over there.”
In the same clip, Divya Suresh said, “He followed us as soon as we got into the car,” while her cousin asked her to call the police. The background information on the incident said the man allegedly continued harassing them even after they got into the car and locked the doors from inside.
Divya Suresh was a contestant on Bigg Boss Kannada season 8, which aired on Colors Kannada in 2021 and was hosted by Kichcha Sudeep. She is also known for the Kannada serials Nanna Hendthi MBBS and Jodi Hakki.
Previously a model, Divya Suresh won the Miss India South title in 2017. She made her film debut the same year with the Kannada film #9, Hilton Cross. Her other film credits include Rowdy Baby, Kempu Haladi Hasiru and Hiranya.
Last year, Divya Suresh was involved in a controversy after she was identified as the alleged driver of the car involved in an accident that left three people injured in a late-night hit-and-run case in Bengaluru.
