Lock Upp winner Shreya Kalra says Shivangi Joshi doesn't deserve the hate
Fresh from her Lock Upp win, social media influencer Shreya Kalra said she will not add to the hate against Shivangi Joshi. In an exclusive interview, she also spoke about Shilpa Shinde's support, settling differences and investing her prize money.
Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa winner Shreya Kalra has said she does not want to add to the trolling against fellow contestant Shivangi Joshi, saying, nobody deserves that amount of hate. In an exclusive conversation with India Today Digital after winning the show, Shreya said she did not want to give Shivangi any nickname and hoped the criticism against her would die down.
Shreya also spoke about her unexpected win, the support she received from Shilpa Shinde inside the jail, the criticism around her aggressive image on the show, and how she plans to use the Rs 1 crore prize money. The 29-year-old said the win felt surreal and added that she now wants to move on from all differences with her co-contestants.
Speaking about the moment she was declared the winner, Shreya admitted that she had given up hope despite the speculation around the finale.
"Honestly, I was not expecting this. I did see and hear the rumours that Shivangi (Joshi) would be winning the show, so at one point, I just gave up. I felt like I couldn't do it anymore. I even said in my speech, 'Even if I don't win this, I won in life.' The kind of friends, family and fans I have got from this show—I was happy with that. So, I couldn't believe it. Oh! I won and made it. I used to keep saying this during the show, that I have come to win the show, and I will win it. I would say this with conviction, and finally it did happen. I really felt overwhelmed; it was a very surreal feeling. I finally felt that kuch ukhad liya hai. Jo main bolti thi woh sach hua hai," she said.
During the finale, Shivangi Joshi had said that if Shreya won, she would change her name. Shreya, however, said she did not want to respond by giving her co-contestant any name or add to the hate Shivangi has been receiving online.
"I don't want to give her any name. Firstly, though she did a reality show, frankly, she is not made for a reality show. This thing has backfired on her, and the amount of hate that she is getting—she doesn't deserve that, honestly. I have spoken to her on the show; she is very sweet. That one moment with Harshad created a little mess, but otherwise she is a nice human being. So I don't want to give her any name. She is already getting a lot of hate on Instagram, and I don't want to add to it. I hope that hate dies down. Nobody deserves that amount of hate. Everybody makes mistakes. It's not like I am perfect. I have done a lot of good things in the show, but I have also done bad things. So I don't want to give any name to anyone. I just wish her all the very best in her life," she said.
Moving on after the show
Shreya said she has chosen not to hold grudges after the show and has cleared the air with her fellow contestants.
"I don't have any grudge against anyone. Even with my friends, if there is a fight, I go ahead, say sorry and ask them to be friends. Because you never know who and when someone will leave this world. I don't want anything to remain in our hearts. God forbid that person is no longer in the world, I would have that regret in me that I had the time, I could have worked things out, and I didn't. Yesterday, I apologised to everybody. I spoke to everyone, danced with everyone and sorted things out with everyone—Chaudhary, Yogesh, Shivangi, Harshad, Sunita, Vyas and Varun. I don't want to keep any grudge or bitterness because, for me, this show is over now," she said.
Shilpa Shinde's support
Shreya said one of the most emotional parts of the finale was seeing Shilpa Shinde root for her victory. She called Shilpa one of the kindest and most genuine people she has met and said her support made the journey better.
"Shilpa ji is the best. I have never met somebody who is so kind and genuine. Imagine being in a competition and telling another woman that you want her to win. How is that even possible? I could never have said this to anybody like Shilpa ji. She showed me so much love and trust and made my journey so beautiful. I wouldn't have been able to do what she did for me. I am really happy that she supported me so much. Nobody supported me inside the show, so I was really happy that she was genuinely happy and cheering for me," she shared.
'I was loud, but I was never fake'
Responding to criticism that her win shows aggression is the key to success in reality shows, Shreya said many people have ignored how much she changed during the season.
"If you look at the show very closely, in the beginning I fought with everyone. But after that, I tried to improve myself. When Akansha put water in my food, I didn't fight with her. I even offered her food and tried to sort things out. Even after that, I tried not to fight with anybody and tried to talk lovingly. I won tasks for people, won three tasks for Ram ji (Kapoor), extended a hand of friendship and motivated Shivangi too to win the show."
She added, "Yes, I have been loud because that's how I express my feelings. I am like this in my real life too. But that doesn't mean one has to be loud. On a reality show, you have to be real, which I was. Every side of me came out—aggressive, ugly, bad, good, a good friend and a bad friend. That's who I actually am. It is not necessary to fight in a reality show, but it is necessary to give your opinion when it matters. When something wrong is happening with others, you have to have a voice, and you should give your opinion. Not only on a reality show, but in real life too. I have always been real. Even if people call me aggressive, loud or bad, at least I was not fake in the show. I am really proud of that."
How she plans to use the prize money
Shreya said she does not plan to spend the prize money on luxury items or expensive cars. Instead, she wants to invest it and also help Shilpa Shinde with her shelter home.
"First of all, I am planning to invest the money. I am also planning to help Shilpa ji with her shelter home because she really wanted that. Secondly, I am going to invest in a property. I am not a big fan of luxury items or expensive cars. So I will invest in property and definitely help Shilpa ji with her shelter home. As a friend, I want to do that," she concluded.
